A wide movement field and a separate presence area
STEINEL PD-24 ECO DALI-2 IPD AP is a black surface-mounted presence and movement detector for indoor ceiling installation. The manufacturer article number of this particular version is 088224. Passive infrared detection and mixed-light measurement supply a lighting-control system with information about human movement and room brightness. The wide movement field is useful in large offices, meeting rooms and passageways. Smaller movements at a workstation should instead be planned within the separately specified presence area. The detector is not a luminaire or a self-contained 230 V movement switch.
The current exact-article page and data sheet specify 360° detection with up to Ø24 m tangential movement coverage, Ø5.5 m radial movement coverage and Ø7.5 m presence coverage. Tangential movement crosses the field, whereas radial movement approaches the detector. These measurements are diameters; Ø24 m does not mean a 24 m radius and does not describe small-movement sensitivity across the entire field. The manufacturer states 1436 switching zones. Furniture, partitions and other obstructions can limit the detector's view, so choose its position according to the actual room layout.
The supplied operating instructions state coverage at a 2.5 m installation height and give Ø24.5 m for tangential movement. This offer uses the current data sheet's more conservative Ø24 m value; radial and presence diameters agree between the sources. The optimum height is 2.8 m. The current article table permits mounting at 2–10 m, while the full manual specifies 2.5–4 m and the Quick Start gives 2–4 m. For this offer, follow their common 2.5–4 m range; obtain manufacturer confirmation for a higher installation. The Ø7.5 m presence area must not be assumed to remain available at a 10 m ceiling.
A DALI-2 input device requiring a controller
DALI-2 Input Device means that the detector passes detection and brightness information to an external DALI-2 application controller or compatible building-management system. It is not an APC controller, does not supply power to the DALI line and has no relay for a lighting load. Switching and dimming depend on the selected controller and the luminaires' DALI control gear. No autonomous constant-lighting regulation is promised for this IPD device. Provide the application controller, DALI power supply and luminaires separately; they are not included with the detector.
The DALI bus carries both power and communication. The operating instructions give 12–22.5 V DC and classify the connection as non-SELV. Never connect 230 V mains to the bus terminals. Distinguish the manufacturer's three current statements: typical consumption in regular operation is 12 mA at 16 V, maximum consumption in regular operation is 17 mA at 10 V, and the maximum according to IEC 62386-101 is 84 mA. The manual respectively describes a load of 6 users for the typical 12 mA value, 9 users for the 17 mA regular-operation maximum, and 42 users for the 84 mA IEC maximum. These are three different conditions. For system planning, the manufacturer directs installers to use the 10 V regular-operation current and allow an extra 20% margin. Calculate the bus power budget and the number of connected devices for the complete selected system; do not replace these conditions with a single assumed participant rating.
Configuration, installation and masking
The current exact-article data sheet specifies configuration through the bus. Configure detection events and brightness information according to the application controller's capabilities, rather than assuming that the detector contains an autonomous lighting timer or adjustable twilight-switch relay. COM 1 potentiometers, 2000 W or 500 W LED load ratings and parallel lamp-switching arrangements in the general ECO family description do not apply to this DALI-2 IPD article. The manufacturer states sensNORM testing and DALI-2 certification according to IEC 62386; the selected controller must specifically support the input device.
This AP surface-mounted version has a plastic housing measuring Ø129 × 70 mm and an exact-article 244 g net weight. A magnetic modular connection simplifies attaching the detector part to its base. Included insertable shrouds in a matching colour allow unwanted detection sectors to be masked. There is no separate electronic or mechanical range-adjustment control; use the shrouds to restrict the field. The manual specifies a 2–1000 lx light-measurement range, rather than a threshold for an autonomous twilight relay. The AP version has IP 54 protection and a stated −20 to +50 °C ambient range, while its intended use remains indoors. The separate recessed-ceiling adapter and detectors with other mounting arrangements are not included with this offer.

The dimension drawing applies to the AP housing. The external application controller shown in the DALI connection diagram is a separate system component, not part of the sensor package. The manufacturer states a five-year warranty subject to its warranty terms.
